the name of Jesus Christ! Located east of Highway 63, excluding the

picturesque settings in the State. We also embrace the chaplaincies of
the two campuses of the Emmaus Homes, the Shannondale Mission (click
here for more details), and the Outdoor Ministry camps of Mo-Val and
TAMBO (click here for more details).

Fall Business Meeting
The Fall Business Meeting of the Eastern
Association, Missouri Mid-South Conference, United Church of
Christ, is but weeks away! We will gather on Sunday,
September 27, 2009, at Good Shepherd UCC, St. Charles, to
engage ourselves in worshipful work as we consider the life and
business of the Eastern Association. We will begin our meeting
promptly at 2:00 p.m. and will conclude our time with a meal at
5:30 p.m. We know your time on a potentially gorgeous fall
weekend is precious, as is the opportunity for us to gather as
part of the Body of Christ to affirm and renew our relationships
in Christ and to engage in the ministry to which we all are
called. We strive to honor your commitments to represent your
churches, and to uplift one another when we are sent forth once
again. We remind you that each authorized minister is a voting
member of the Association and should be present at the meeting.
Also, each local church is entitled to have two delegates and
two youth leader delegates (communicant member less than 21 yrs
old) for the first 100 reported members, plus one additional
delegate for each additional 100 members or fraction thereof up
to a maximum of seven.

Lay Institute of Faith Exploration at Eden presents:
“Evangelism: Living and Telling the Story” Basic Course.
Rev. Gale Engel, Instructor, Consultant for the United
Church of Christ.
September 18th and 19th, 2009
This interactive course will provide an
opportunity for participants to explore the ways “God is still
speaking!” in their lives and through the mission of the local
church. The course has six key purposes: to explore the central
place of evangelism in our Christian life and in our
congregations; to define the unique nature of evangelism; to
focus on the principles of evangelism as espoused in Adam
Hamilton’s book, “Selling Swimsuits in the Arctic;” to discover
four dimensions of growth essential for congregational vitality;
to reflect on learning and identify ways to implement a
strategic plan of evangelism in a local setting; and to share in
community, worship, and discussion. Join us! For more
information or to register, go to:

Rev. Dr. Nancy Livingston at 618-277-1273.

Spring Meeting
April 26th, 2009
Economic Justice was the focus of the day
when over 130 people gathered at the Eastern Association’s 2009
Spring Meeting, held April 26th at Zion UCC, Union, Mo. The
theme of the program was “Facilitators of Hope: equipping faith
communities to work for economic justice”.
Following words of welcome by Zion’s Pastor Rev. Michael Bone
and devotionals by Rev. Kemery Baldwin of St. John UCC, St.
Charles, the attendees were dismissed to attend two consecutive
breakout sessions lasting 50 minutes each. Each participant
could choose to attend two of these four presentations:
• a Food Pantry Roundtable, featuring speakers Rev. Armin Klemme
(Zion UCC, Union), Judy Schneider (St. Peter’s UCC, Washington),
and Cheryl Barta (Hope Food Pantry, O’Fallon) discussed topics
such as site location, staffing, food acquisition and
distribution, clientele, and record-keeping.
• Rev. John Hogue, Pastor of Faith UCC, Wentzville, and Mandy
Doumit, R.N. presented on the RAPHA clinic, a medical clinic for
transients and the working poor which operates out of Faith UCC.
• Dorothy “Dottie” Kastigar, Community Development Coordinator
of the Community Council of St. Charles County, presented on the
topic “Support to People Experiencing Homelessness”.
• JoAnn Toerper, Program Administrator for the Missouri Career
Center in Warrenton, presented on workforce retraining programs
and resources available in Lincoln, Warren, and Montgomery
Counties.
An offering was taken up during opening devotionals to benefit
the RAPHA Clinic. Session participants were also given packets
with extensive resource materials for Lincoln, Warren, Franklin,
Gasconade, and St. Charles Counties, in addition to the
materials available at each breakout session. The afternoon
finished with a catered dinner, and time for informal discussion
and fellowship.
