Campaign Case Statement
THE LEGACY
|
|
| |
For more than forty years, the place where
thousands of children and youth, men and women have “Embodied the
Spirit and Embraced the Wonder” has been Camp MoVal. The beautiful
rolling hills, verdant woods, tranquil lake and outdoor worship areas
bring joy to the eye and the soul. Special and long-lasting
friendships are formed around campfires, in the dining hall, at the
pool, or in the cabins. The guidance and example of camp counselors,
directors and staff shapes and directs lives. The inspiration of
worship, bible studies, informal conversations and quiet times alone
soothes the spirit, deepens understanding, and raises the kind of
profound questions that can lead to hearing God’s call and
experiencing a spiritual awakening.

|
Embody
|
Many have encountered leaders, mentors, guides
and friends whose faith is visible in the ways they encounter the
world around them. Through these relationships many have been
inspired to choose a life of lay or ordained ministry.
|
| |
|
Spirit
|
Many have renewed their sense of meaning and
purpose that had become lost in the busyness of the daily grind. |
| |
|
Embrace
|
Many have the experience of being affirmed and
accepted and of making the circle wide enough to include others.
|
| |
|
Wonder
|
Many begin a lifetime journey of discovery of
the beauty of God’s creation and the precious uniqueness of each
child of God. |

THE NEED
|
|
| |
This special place, the setting for the renewal
and transformation of countless individuals, is itself in need of
transformation and renewal. The Camp MoVal facilities are tired and
worn out. Rather than contributing to the overall experience of those
attending programs, the facilities are often obstacles. Most areas are
not accessible to those who are physically challenged in some way.
Many buildings cannot be used in the winter. Sleeping spaces are
crowded and uncomfortable, especially for adults. Bathroom facilities
are inadequate and allow little privacy. Common space that is large
enough to serve many potential groups does not exist. The swimming
pool leaks and has a capacity that is inadequate. The lake, the visual
heart of camp, is a fraction of its original depth due to lack of
serious maintenance. Water and sewer systems are fragile. There is no
adult-friendly retreat facility for adults or youth. Current
facilities severely limit the potential of ministry at Camp MoVal.

THE RESPONSE
|
|
| |
The Missouri Mid-South Conference of the United
Church of Christ voted overwhelmingly to undertake a substantial
financial campaign to enhance the Outdoor Ministries program by
investing in Camp MoVal. Now is the time to invest in the future — the
future of Camp MoVal, of our children, youth, younger and older
adults, families, and indeed, in the future of the church itself! The
financial goal for Phase One is five million dollars. We believe this
to be a challenging, yet achievable goal. By joining together in
generous giving, and by letting God’s Spirit work among us, we will
transform Camp MoVal for present and future generations. We invite
generous gifts from all individuals, church groups and congregations.
Your gift will “Embody the Spirit and Embrace the Wonder” at Camp
MoVal for years to come! |
