 4.  Mission Meeting with Bishop Rose from Philippines

November 5, 2009

You are invited to a gathering at Southwood UCC, 7904 Raytown Road, Raytown MO 64188 on Sunday, November 15 at 6:00pm to meet Bishop Dulce Rose from the Northern Visayas Region of the Philippines. We will share food and fellowship as she shares stories about the United Church of Christ of the Philippines (UCCP) and an interest in building partnerships. As we learned at our Bienniel meeting this past week, partnerships can take all shapes and sizes.

This past June a group led by Dr. Eleazar Fernandez from United Theological Seminary and Rev. Karen Aitkens, pastor at Bethel UCC in Kansas City visited with the Bishop in Tacloban, Leyte. Charlotte Ward from Southwood UCC and Bill Wootten from Immanuel UCC in St. Louis were part of this immersion experience.

Dale Parson, ACM along with the Bishop will share ways to be in partnership and build relationshps while we stand in solidarity with our Filipino brothers and sisters. Anyone who has an interest in learning more about the UCCP and partnership opportunites is invited to this special evening. We learned just recently that the Bishop was coming to the United States and could come to the Missour Mid-South Conference. Your presence would be a gift. If you are able to attend we invite you to bring a dish (anything from appetizer to dessert or anything in between) to share. Please RSVP to pkbethelucc@att.net or southwooducc@comcast.net or call 816-453-2628 or 816-353-9090.

Peace,
Karen and Charlotte

 5.  Krista Betz Party

November 9, 2009

Dear Friends: On November 29 the Eastern Association is hosting a Conference Wide celebration of the ministry of Rev. Krista Betz at Robller Winery in New Haven, MO from 2:00 – 5:00 pm. There will be a service to recognize the ending of an authorized ministry at 3:00. Here is a flyer for you to use to publicize our gathering and to invite members of your congregation to come and say thank-you and good-by to Krista. Krista has been serving as the acting part time Associate Conference Minister in our conference since September 2007 and will begin her new position as the interim conference minister of the Kansas Oklahoma Conference on January 1. I also want to invite your church to consider contributing toward a gift for Krista which we hope to present to her on the 29th. Please send your contribution to the conference office by Nov 25 and mark it – GIFT FOR KRISTA. I hope you can join me on the 29th as we thank Rev. Betz for her ministry with us.

Peace
