2009 Supporting Ministry
Submitted by Joyce Bathke
The Supporting Ministry works toward aiding
churches to perform their task of effective faith and social
witness, including issues of peace and justice; to foster and
encourage mutually beneficial relationships between local church and
the agencies and institutions of the Conference, and administers
grants to support the mission outreach of congregations and
ecumenical agencies. An objective of this ministry is to enhance the
mission performed by local churches as they strive to share gifts,
renew spirits, and reach out to others through Jesus Christ. Funds
for this ministry have been dwindling over the past few years making
the selection very difficult. We receive many wonderful applications
and prayerfully make decisions where we feel we will best be able to
best do God’s work.
The Grants Awarded for 2009 were:
$10,000 Faith UCC, Wentzville - RAPHA Clinic
$10,000 St. John's UCC, St. Louis
$5,000 Jamaican Christian Medical Mission, Cape Girardeau
$5,000 Missouri School of Religion, Jefferson City
$2,500 Impact, Jefferson City
$2,500 Joint Neighborhood Ministry, St. Louis
Due to the conference budget situation, funding in 2010 will be even
further reduced.

2007 Supporting Ministry
The Supporting Ministry is tasked with
facilitating the ministries of
Association Churches by providing funding, as available, to assist
with these ministries. The committee is to help churches provide
faith and social justice witness and reviews seed grant
applications.
The committee usually meets at least two times a year – once to
update and make changes to the grant application guidelines and
requirements and once to review applications and decide who will
receive assistance. and furthers the Supporting Ministry’s mandate
to identify ways in which the Conference can support our call to
justice and peace. This past fall two grants were awarded for
$10,000, five for $5,000 and two for $2,500. All those receiving
funding are required to submit the outcomes that resulted from the
funding on a quarterly basis.
In the summer of 2007 the grant application was reviewed. The
application will be posted on the web page and awards will be
determined based on the outcome of the budget approved at the
Biennial Meeting.
The Supporting Ministry appreciates the opportunity to assist
churches in fulfilling their outreach mission.
