“Exciting, exhausting, inspiring, challenging” -
these are some of the words from our General Synod delegates as they
described the 5-day experience at Hartford, CT. Our 21 delegates and
over 100 Conference visitors were part of the more than 9,000 people
registered for General Synod. Sunday afternoon worship drew a few more
thousand folks from surrounding churches. This was the largest
convention that the city of Hartford had ever hosted!
The Missouri Mid-South Conference delegation
worked hard. They began each day by gathering at 6:30 am for worship
and reflection. Many also gathered after the evening events for
conversation about the day. General Synod worship was uplifting and
inspiring. The days were filled with amazing opportunities as speakers
shared their faith-stories and challenged the United Church of Christ.
On Saturday, “Synod in the City” provided an array of workshops,
speakers, and entertainment. The 50th anniversary of the United Church
of Christ was celebrated in various ways. Some delegates and visitors
were involved in service projects. Delegates deliberated the
resolutions that were submitted by conferences and local churches. And
of course there were cookies - the churches in Connecticut baked
14,000 dozen cookies! |
