Jamaica Partnership Mission
Good News
In June 2010 four delegates from
the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands will come to
Missouri for a week long visit. They will attend and participate at
our Missouri Mid South Conference Annual Gathering in Springfield,
Missouri. We also would like to tour some of the agencies related to
our Conference. Let’s make our friends feel welcome.
Jamaica Mission Trip.
Our friends in Jamaica have
invited us, a group of ten, to visit October 5-12 of 2010. Tentative
plans include a trip to Pringle Children’s Home and attending a
regular Sunday morning worship. Carlton Senior is looking for a work
project for us.
Please call or e-mail Charles Adams for more information or to sign
up for the trip at 573 764-3963 or
ca6853@fidnet.com.
The History
The partnership
was formed in 1992. It established a bond between the North
Middlesex Area Council of the United Church in Jamaica and the
Cayman Islands and our own Missouri Mid-South Conference of the
United Church of Christ.
It is a covenantal partnership to support our mutual faith in God
and to serve all his people.
Background
Since 1992 we have had numerous visits back and forth.
Rev. Brueseke and his wife Libby visited with Rev. Lansford Lawrence
at Discovery Bay in Jamaica in the early 90's.
St. John's UCC Bem helped build a school at Discovery Bay.
A large group of Jamaicans came to visit in 2004.
We had 12 from Missouri Mid-South Conference go to Ash Wednesday
services in Feb. of 2008.
Three delegates from Jamaica attended and presented programs at our
FaithWorks meeting in October of 2008.
Rev. Jeff Whitman was the featured preacher at the Ash Wednesday
service at Boscobel Cathedral in Feb. of 2009.
