“Wow! Timber Time is really making a difference in
students’ lives.”
This is just one of the many comments from teachers and administrators
at Eminence R-1 Schools. The comments are being made about Shannondale
Community Center’s after-school program, Timber Time. Shannondale is
located in a remote area of Shannon County called Timber. Timber is
located 20 miles from the school in Eminence. The distance makes it
nearly impossible for students to get needed tutoring. Several parents
work and cannot pick kids up from school after a tutoring session with
a teacher. Timber Time was created to help the area kids get the
needed help with schoolwork. Jeff and Laurie Fulk began the tutoring
once a week, but quickly realized that more tutoring nights were
needed.
Shannondale applied for a federal grant through the school system to
help with expenses and hire two local community members to work with
the kids every school day. These grant monies provided needed funding
for salaries, supplies, books, food and Internet. Shannondale also
provides transportation to their homes after tutoring. |

The grant cycle has ended and now Shannondale is
looking for help funding the program. For $82 a month for 12 months or
$109 per month for 9 months (a school year) a church, youth group,
fellowship group or family can sponsor a Timber Time student. Eighteen
kids are enrolled in Timber Time at this time. Traditionally Timber
kids have struggled in school, but the tides are changing and this is
no longer true due to the hard work and determination of the workers
and students. Please pray and ask God to lead you in giving to this
program.
